WORKING TOWARDS CARBON_NEUTRAL BUILDING ENVIRONMENTS
GREENTHINC. arose from the belief that persistent and deep-green thoughtmust be applied to all of our activities in the design and construction professions. What we're finding out is that many of the new thoughts from just a few years ago have become mainstream - they've become accepted as the norm. So, this led us to continue to ask what's next in order to push our expertise of sustainable building environments.
Accomplished and ambitiously-driven professional offering over 24 years of building professional experience in local and international levels with success in Project Architecture, Management and Sustainable Design Leadership. Able to bring diverse groups together over the common focus of sustainable design/construction/operations and address complex issues with clarity and order. Recognized as a Green Business Leader with strengths in communicating architectural and engineering design integration, building operations, construction methods, life-cycle costing assessment, and green building certification programs. Known for architectural community leadership and university student mentorship for upcoming leaders in sustainable design.

Andre Thompson, CEO/Owner of Hubert Construction + Real Estate Services
"Jim is an excellent architect/consultant. Jim is very detail oriented and puts not only the proper team together for a project, but he's a visionary and sees the clients perspective from the start and implements it to perfection. Thanks again Jim."

Steve Barton, Principal at Axiom Architecture writes:
"I have known Jim for the past 2 years and have had the opportunity to work directly with him on the Charlottetown Terrace renovation project. GREENTHINC has served as the LEED consultant for this project and Jim has been instrumental in guiding the project through the LEED Online process. Jim’s background and knowledge have made a positive impact on this project and it is currently tracking to receive LEED gold certification.
My experience with GREENTHINC has been rewarding and they have shown that they have the capacity and ability to perform on the projects for which we have hired them. In addition, Jim is highly regarded by clients, consultants, and peers alike."

Amanda Sturgeon, Certification Director, Living Building Challenge (Past Director of Sustainable Design/Senior Associate, Perkins+Will) writes:
"Jim has been a committed leader in our sustainable design initiative, showing dedication to the advancement of sustainable design [while] at Perkins+Will. I highly recommend Jim, he is dedicated and hardworking and a great person to work with.”

Greg Zirkle, Architect II, Perkins+Will writes:
“I first worked with Jim shortly after starting at Perkins + Will in 2006. 3 years later I still use what I learned while working with him on a daily basis. At that time I helped him finish up a set of Contract Documents for a project and later assisted with the Construction Administration. Later on we collaborated on many Sustainable Design Initiatives, in which again I developed extremely valuable skills in regards to working as a design professional. Out of all the mentors I have had, Jim stands out as one of the best.”

Collier Ward, AIA, LEED AP, Consulting Architect writes:
“I had the pleasure of first working with Jim Kirby years ago; Jim was one of those rare fellows who could meet the demands of an office job while earning an architectural degree. (I believe the design side of his daily routine energized him.) In the office he kept things fresh with tales from the studio and with challenges to the conventional thinking that some of us (slightly older workers) displayed. I have followed Jim's career and know him to be, still, a serious practitioner and an unconventional thinker. His productive longevity with his current firm and his influence in the environmental design field both attest to this pair of strengths. I believe Jim's dual title says it best: Senior Project Manager / Sustainable Design Leader. I recommend Jim Kirby and his work. I believe his knowledge and passion would be a benefit to any team.”

Jason McCree Gentry, Broker - RE/MAX Executive Realty (Past Architect III, Perkins+Will) writes:
“Jim Kirby was a great inspiration to me during my time working at Perkins+Will. He led the Charlotte office in its roll of sustainability. Since that time I've had the pleasure of working with Jim outside the realm of Perkins+Will and his dedication and passion of being an environmental steward continues to this day. Jim has since founded his own company. When I have questions or need advice on how to live more sustainably, Jim has always been and will continue to be that guiding source of information.”
